Subirats en flor
2005
For the third year in a row, the Patronat de
Turisme de Subirats has developped the act Subirats
en flor 2005, thanks to the collaboration of the
neighbours of Subirats who have undertaken to
improve the towns, giving them a vine-growing
touch, with flowers on the balconies.
The delivery of flower lots to the neighbours
of Subirats was celebrated the last saturday may
14 2005 at the central office of the Patronat
de Turisme, at Lavern RENFE Station, between 10:00
h. And 13:00 h., in a act to which more than one
thousand people attended, and near 500 families
picked up their flower lot, which were integrated
by four plants.
The institutional act was celebrated at 12.00
h, and it was favoured by the presence of Mr.
Jaume Busquets, Assistant Manager of Landscape
in the Departament de Política Territorial
i Obres Públiques, together with Mr. Angel
Farina, President of the Mercat de Flor i Planta
Ornamental de Catalunya; and Mr. Antoni Soler
and Mr. Pere Guilera, President and Vice-president
of the Patronat de Turisme de Subirats.

Mr. Pere Guilera pointed out the effort of the
Patronat de Turisme for consolidating iniciatives
like this which contribute to the improvement
of the quality of our towns, and recognizes the
importance of the massive participation of the
neighbours of Subirats, since without their participation
and iterest, this would not be possible. At the
menatime, he commented that in this third edition,
the participation has been spectacular and has
overflowed the most optimistic forecasts.
On the other hand, Mr. Guilera said that both
the act of Subirats en Flor and the Simposium
d’Escultura de l’Alt Penedès,
are happenings which have to act in favour of
the improvement of the economical activity of
the Region of Subirats.
Pere Guilera affirmed strongly that the actions
of the Patronat de Turisme are forefront iniciatives
at a level of the comarca, and asks for a compromise
of the catalan administration to contribute with
resources to favour these activities, since for
a Region like Subirats they refresent a high effort.
From his part, the President of the Mercat de
Flor i Planta Ornamental de Catalunya, Mr. Ángel
Farina, stated that it was the second time tah
he attended a happening of this source and congratulated
himself for the continuity and success of this
iniciative, at the meatime that he said that it
would be very convenient for iniciatives like
this to have the maximum diffusion due to its
importance on the improvement of the urban areas
of the cities and towns, and, besides all that,
he made a call to use auchtoctonous plants in
the landscaping of our cities and towns, since
it represents water saving at the time that it
is an investment in sustainability. For an end,
he expressed the non-convenience of using grass,
but substitute it with other species which adapt
better to our climate, and this way not to consume
so much water in an unnecessary way.

At his turn, the Assistant Director of Lanscape,
Mr. Jaume Busquets, qualified the iniciative as
very interesting due to the promotion that it carries
out, at the same time that he expressed tha it would
be good for other towns to take this happening as
a model.
Mr. Busquets explainded that he knew very well of
the interesting iniciatives that the Region of Subirats
was carrying out, and he named some like the Routes
of Wine, the project of integration and improvement
of the quality of the landscape of the industrial
areas, and Subirats en Flor. For him, theese are
the most relevant actions, and expressed that the
Region of Subirats was way above in the average
of actions toward the improvement of the quality
of the territory. He also asked the Patronat de
Turisme de Subirats to get involved with the creation
of a network of cities and towns which nowadays
promote in Catalonia happening like Subirats en
Flor, to favour alltogether the knowledge and diffusion
of this actions as an element for the improvement
of the quality of life of the citicens and the improment
of the touristic quality of our towns.
To finish the institutional act, spoke the President
of the Patronat de Turisme, Mr. Antoni Soler,
who wellcomed all the authorities and neighbours
attending the act and said that with Subirats
en Flor several goals were achieved, like promoting
the love for plants, to give quality and a good
style to the houses of Subirats, and make more
beautiful the towns. He remarked that this action
would help improve the quality of life, love more
our gardens, our towns, and, at the end, our country.
Once the speeches were finished, the winners
of the prices of Subirats en Flor 2005 were announced.
The price for the vine-grower was rafflled amongst
all the vine-growers which took more care of the
roads through which any of the nine Routes of
Wine run, and the price was obtainde by Mr. Joan
Marina, who will enjoy a weekend at Banyuls; and
the winner of the price for the most well arranged,
taken care of and flower-embellished façade,
who will enjoy a weekend in a town with the charm
of the catalan geography, was Mrs. Silvia Domenech,
from Can Cartró.
We must say that both Mr. Jaume Busquets and Mr.
Àngel Farina had the deference to participate
in the selection of the façade winner of
the price Subirats en Flor, together with the
members of the Patronat de Turisme.
