| ROUTE 1

The route of the Castell de Subirats is the most
remarkable of all which constitute the Routes
of Wine proposed by the Patronat de Turisme.
The journey starts at The Estació Vitivinícola,
real neuralgic centre of the Routes that go across
the region. This station is located at the wayside
train stop of Lavern – Subirats, and there
you can find all kind of information that you
would like to know about Subirats: the Routes,
the addresses of the cavas and cellars, as well
as their visit schedule, the restaurants of the
region, etc.

Lavern Station
|
Estació Vitivinícola. Km: 0,0
One comes out of the station through the ramp
that goes down toward the road, and follows
it toward the town of Lavern, by passing
underneath the AP-7 highway. At the other
side of it runs a road that turns to the
left as one goes along (NE).
Road. Km:
0,2
One must follow the road toward Can Maristany,
some hundred meters further. At the left side
there is the highway, very close. At the right
side, we can appreciate the vineyards. It is
worth it to stop at the sign which explains
the vegetative cycle of the vine. This way,
whatever the time of the year we visit Subirats,
we’ll be able to have a clear idea of
all the phases of the cycle: the plor, the
sprouting, the bud burst and the beginning
to ripen.

Cal Maristany
|
Cal Maristany. Km: 0,8
Cal maristany is a farm-house of notable dimensions.
Its most visible part was built at the beginning
of the 20th century and it keeps some quite
older parts. It is a rectangular ground plan
construction with a two-slope roof, and it
has a quadrangular tower attached to it.
From this point, one has a good
perspective of the vineyards, with the town of
Lavern in the background (S). Further to the
right (SW) one can see part of the Region, pointing
up La Granada and its church tower.
Then we follow the wood track,
which takes a wide turn toward the right, while
getting closer to Cal Justino.
|
|
Cal Justino
|
Cal Justino. Km: 1,0
Right before reaching Cal Justino, we leave,
at the right, a track which, amongst trees,
follows its way toward the town of Lavern.
A short way past the house, our track turns
suddenly to the left (E) and it gains some
height. Standing at this zone it is easy to
glimpse at the tile-shaped landscape of vineyards
and forest which characterizes the region.
Cultivation fields, forest and towns alternate.
During our way, we find information signs every
now and then (the work at the vineyard, the
several varieties of grape, the climate, etc.)
which we can read.
|
|
Savall
|
Savall. Km: 2,6
Savall is an 18th century farm-house, with a
keystoned gate which describes a semi-circular
arch. It has a basilical ground plan and it
has some attached bodies at the north and west
sides. This last one is crowned by some crenelles
of modernist inspiration. The façade,
as it was usual, is oriented toward the south
so as to benefit from the solar light and heat,
and on it a solar clock shows up. Savall is
located at a road crossing and we must follow
the road to the left (N) according to the ascending
way of the track.
Lime furnace.
Km: 3,0
At very few meters bellow the forest track, a
bit before crossing the torrent, there are the
rests of an antique lime furnace, which are quite
well conseved.
|
|
La Bardera
|
La Bardera. Km: 3,5
La Bardera is an 18th century farm-house of which
the façade shows up, with a notable solar
clock. Though standing from the track it cannot
be seen, not far toward the East we find the house
of Can Rosell, one of the towns which are part
of the municipality of Subirats.
This part of the track runs through land with a certain elevation,
which allows us to have quite interesting views. We also find examples of other
dry-land cultivations other than vine, e.g. olive-trees or almond-trees. The
same way, one can observe specimens of trees which are not special in the zone,
but they have been introduced, e. g. the elm or the eucalyptus.
|
|
Can Rigol
|
Crossing with the road from
Sant Sadurní to Ordal. Km: 4,7
Once we arrive at the crossing we will have to
turn to the right, in the direction toward the
next town of Els Casots. From this point we can
observe, at the left (N), the farm-house of Can
Rigol, brilliant example of a basilical ground
plan construction, typical of the traditional
architecture of the catalan world of farm. We
also find an information sign about the characteristics
on climate of Subirats.
During this part of the Route,
we find some isolated willow-trees. To the right
(SW) we have a very interesting perspective on
the Torre or Torrota de Can Llopart.
|
|
Torre Llopart
|
Els Casots. Km: 5,4
Right at the entrance of the town of Els Casots,
we find an asphalted local tack which goes left
according to the direction of our way, and leads
us toward the Castell de Subirats. Some very visible
indicator signs keep us from getting lost. This
road goes down strongly until it crosses a torrent
which separates us from the Castell. As we go down
we can observe specimens like the black elder or
the ulmus. The track is wide enogh for two vehicles,
but one must be prudent, since at some point the
visibility is not good enough and the inclination
of the slope is quite important.
Castell de
Subirats. Km: 7,3
In arriving at the architectural whole of the
Castell and the Sanctuary, we find a great flat-area
where we can park comfortably if we arrived there
by car. From this point, the view is magnificent,
but it is preferable to observe the landscape
from the terrace that there is besides the church,
not far from the parking-place.

Prolongation
of the itinerary
Those who would like to have a more complete
vision of the surroundings of the Castell and
wish to walk a while, they can reach the Torre-ramona,
which is located, very visible, at the foot of
the rocky line of the Castle and the Sanctuary.
